Today, hybrid vehicles like the Prius and Camry Hybrid come in all shapes and sizes, but Toyota has set the bar when it comes to delivering quality hybrids. Toyota is the leader in hybrid sales and offers the widest selection on the market, beginning their legacy with the Prius, but since evolving into a much more diverse hybrid manufacturer with 8 different hybrid vehicles, four of which are variations on the Prius model.
One of their newest models is the Prius V, which takes the classic Prius design and makes it a little bit bigger, resulting in more legroom and cargo space. To continue our “10 Reasons” series, we’re taking a peek inside.
1. 44 MPG
Lets start with the obvious. The main reason you would be interested in a hybrid to begin with is because of the incredible gas mileage. The Prius V will net you 44 highway and 40 city miles per gallon, all while being the size of a small SUV or Crossover.
2. Panoramic Moonroof
A simple yet enjoyable feature of the Prius V is the available panoramic moonroof, which is actually two moonroofs split between the front and rear seats, for maximum exposure to that sunny sky. Whether you're on the open road or parked on a sunny day, this feature is designed to bring the outdoors inside.
3. Standard 6.1 inch Touch Screen Display
Standard in all Prius V models is a 6.1 inch audio display with Bluetooth and an auxiliary input for music. In addition, you can get Toyota's Entune infotainment suite that features a host of apps, navigation, a fre 90-day satellite radio trial, and 8 Premium JBL speakers.
4. Backup Camera
Toyota is known for having backup cameras standard on the majority of their models and the Prius V is no exception. Available on all models, the backup camera will make backing into tight spots and parallel parking much easier.
5. Cargo Space and Storage
The Prius V was designed to increase interior space in Toyota's hybrid linupe, and it certainly does the trick. With 34.4 cubic feet behind the second row, it compares to the Rav4’s 38.4 cubic feet, as well as most other small crossover SUV's. Also tucked away in the Prius V are convenient built in storage units such as this one in the base of the trunk.
6. Smart Key System w/ Push Button Start
In case you don’t like fumbling around in your pocket or purse for your keys, you have the luxury of the smart key system to unlock your doors for you. It comes standard on all models and is even upgraded to open three doors on the Prius V Five trim level rather than just opening the driver door.
7. Heated Mirrors
Also a standard feature on all models is the heated power and folding mirrors. Very important if you live somewhere where snow falls up to a third of the year, instead of scraping and scratching your mirrors, the heated power mirrors will melt any snow and leftover ice stuck to it and obstructing your view.
8. Safety Connect
You can never be too safe right? Like many other top of the line models, the Prius V offers Safety Connect, which is basically your lifeline to the outside world should you get into a serious accident or need roadside assistance. Just tap the button and someone will be on the other side waiting to help you.
9. 7 airbags
Thinking along the lines of safety, you should be happy to know that the Prius V comes with 7 standard airbags, including knee airbags for both the driver and passenger, and side curtain roll down airbags.
10. Vehicle Proximity Notification System
Ironically this feature is not for you, the owner. However, it does give you peace of mind. The Vehicle Proximity Notification System or VPNS was designed because of pedestrian complaints that the Prius was too quiet and could result in dangerous collisions. VPNS alerts pedestrians if they are too close to the moving vehicle if for example, you are backing out of a parking spot and someone is behind you and does not realize the car is running and coming right for them.
So there you have it. Ten features we love about the Prius V. Toyota made great strides to make more than just a hybrid family vehicle. Instead, they designed something original and spacious, open and economical, and something for more than just the city. The Prius V has all the space of a small SUV, yet still gives you the great hybrid fuel economy that you've come to expect from the Prius family.
