At Wellesley Toyota, we only replace airbags with Genuine Toyota Parts. Our customers always come first.
Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), isued a consumer advisory regarding counterfeit airbags installed in vehicles industry-wide and how consumers can protect themselves against them.
According to the NHTSA, these airbags may have been installed as replacement parts after a crash and look nearly identical to the certified original manufacturer parts. NHTSA tests showed that these counterfeit airbags consistently malfunctioned, sometimes even jettisoning shrapnel when deployed.
This issue is expected to affect less than 0.1% of all U.S. vehicles, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of the warning.
